Samsung reportedly Apple’s new primary supplier of OLED displays
A recent report in ET News revealed that Samsung Display will supply Flexible OLEDs (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) for future Apple iPhones. However, OLED displays are now considered to be better than LCD in a number of ways, including power efficiency. The investment should allow Samsung to churn out between 30,000 and 45,000 OLED displays a month, sources say. Samsung has reportedly signed a deal of about $US7.47 billion (AU$10.77) in the next few years to cater to Apple’s demands. One example, would be the A-series chipsets, produced by Samsung for Apple.

Apple has never used OLED displays in mobile devices before.
Because both corporations have not commented on the deal it should be taken only as a rumor. This agreement also includes the possibility of adding additional facilities to produce another 45,000 OLED displays per month in 2017. The contract apparently indicates that Samsung will invest between $2.49 billion and $3.32 billion in plant and equipment this year. Of course, some of this increased production capacity will be to expand Samsung Display’s own Galaxy line as well as for Chinese manufacturers.
OLED manufacturing and inspection equipment will primarily come from South Korean display businesses AP Systems and HB Technology, the report claims.

This is not the first time Samsung has agreed to provide iPhone components to Apple, even though they are strong rivals competitors the smartphone industry.
