Obama hammers GOP politics in red state Nebraska

Haley said in an interview on CNN Wednesday morning that her speech partly targeted Trump and that party leaders reviewed her speech before she delivered it Tuesday. We must resist that temptation.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, who has given the GOP response in the past, told Haley that he completely understood because when he gave the speech, he had the same condition.

Commentator and author Ann Coulter was more blunt, tweeting, “Trump should deport Nikki Haley”. The President’s speech and the Republican response last night highlight different between the two parties as well as fault lines within the GOP.

“What is it that Donald Trump is saying that makes him one of these angriest voices?” she was asked.

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) – Donald Trump doubled down Thursday on his questions about Texas Sen.

“She was willing to do something a lot of other leading Republicans have been unwilling to do, which is to actually articulate a commitment for American values that some leading Republican presidential candidates are speaking out against”, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Wednesday.

There are four approaches a politician can take to the Obama years: (1) one can be angry about them and show it, (2) one can be angry and not show it, (3) one can be not angry but show anger, or (4) one can be not angry and not show anger.

And this is supposed to a prospective candidate for vice president – who traditionally serves as an attack dog on the campaign trail?

Haley’s appearance served as an early trial balloon to test her potential for being a running mate for the eventual Republican presidential nominee – an unlikely scenario should that nominee be Trump. “I have a lot of admiration for the governor”, McDonough said Wednesday describing parts of her speech as “admirable”. But whoever I pick is also going to be very strong on illegal immigration. Jeb Bush told MSNBC, Haley’s comments are a good start.

“That doesn’t mean that you go around insulting people and thinking that that is clever, or that is being honest, or telling it straight”, he said.

“Although the statistics are really dire right now, and we know it’s a huge problem, it’s a really promising time in the state of SC for really dealing with the issue and making some much-needed change and improvements”. But, he added, “I think she’s handsome so I’d be happy if she’s the face of the party”. Who else could she have been referencing besides Trump? But her point is well-taken: Haley, the American born daughter of Indian immigrant parents, doesn’t jibe with the white supremacy that’s revealed itself in the heart of the GOP base.

I want to focus, though, on a different, albeit related, matter – Haley’s anti-anger message. She also said that Republicans have to take some of the blame for “the erosion of the public trust in America’s leadership”.
