Celebration In Milford Will Pay Tribute To Message Of Dr. King

Vee Smith, UF’s director of black affairs, said the theme of the events will continue this year to empower individuals to “Leave Your Mark” through reflection on eight values lived by King: courage, truth, justice, compassion, dignity, humility, service and tolerance.
Throughout the day, there will be scavenger hunt, where participants can find facts on King hidden in art installations. GospelFest takes places Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 3 p.m. It’s at St. James Baptist Church; which is located at 536 W. Florida Street in Greensboro.
As many of you know the Martin Luther King, JR. holiday is coming up, which means much more than just a day off. In fact, there’s a group sponsoring a celebration of Dr. King’s legacy here locally.
R.E.A.L. MARCH: 10 a.m.: March begins at A.L. Davis Park at Fourth and LaSalle streets and ends at the King monument at Martin Luther King Boulevard and South Claiborne Avenue. Day of Service on January 18.
Organized by a coalition of local faith organizations, the breakfast, which recognizes the birthday of the leader of the modern American Civil Rights movement, was born at Branford’s Zion Church in 1985.

Also on Monday, the UO Holden Center for Leadership and Community Engagement will direct more than 10 community service projects, starting at 8:15 a.m. and 1 p.m. Transportation, snacks and a T-shirt will be provided to registered volunteers. “If we had 50 last year, I’d like to have 60 entries this year”, says Tisdale. It starts at 11 a.m. along Martin Luther King Jr., Drive. Except for city holidays, the Animal Welfare Shelter’s schedule is noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
