Mohammad Amir gets backing of Pakistan T20 captain Afridi

New Zealand’s immigration department issued a statement before Christmas saying it had not yet received a visa application for Amir and would consider one when it is received.

However, Amir’s visa needs to be cleared by New Zealand immigration authorities because he spent three months of a six-month prison term when he was handed a five-year ban.

Mohammad Amir is all set to shine in worldwide cricket again as he did 6,7 year ago when he joined Pakistan Cricket team as teenager, now all the hurdles in his global comeback has been dashed to the earth, PCB has confirmed that Amir has got visa for New Zealand tour.

“People with criminal convictions or who have provided false or misleading information will not be granted a visa unless a character waiver is granted.”

Carley added that Amir’s visa was approved after taking into consideration all the circumstances and objective of the visit.

Amir was given a six-month jail sentence and served half of it at the Portland Young Offenders Institution in Dorset. “He showed remorse at the time, admitted to it”, White said.

Since serving his ban, he has excelled in domestic first-class cricket and in the Bangladesh Premier League.

His presence has already caused a stir in his homeland after ODI captain Azhar Ali and opening batsman Mohammad Hafeez openly opposed him joining the camp.

And probably that’s why a very miffed Pakistani T20 captain chose to abandon an ongoing presser at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and walk off, not happy with a question directed at his captaincy.

“It’s a tough task and I am obviously a different Amir this time since my previous stint”, Amir told ESPN Cricinfo. “I am determined to do this for the fans who stood by me … now it’s all about their pride and I will be the guardian of their trust”.
