White House praises Nikki Haley’s ‘courage’ in criticizing Trump

“Today, we live in a time of threats like few others in recent memory”, she said in remarks aired from the state’s capital, Columbia. Obama asked during the speech.

While her speech was strongly praised by many Republicans on Capitol Hill, the reaction from some of Trump’s sympathizers was harsh.

Haley went on to stress she was not only referencing Trump when she talked about angry and loud voices in her speech. “We must resist that temptation”, Haley said. Remember, this is the Republican response to the State of the Union Address.

“She’s very weak on illegal immigration”, he said.

“But just because you disagree with someone doesn’t mean you’re not a friend”. We can’t do that. And in this age of terrorism, we must not let in refugees whose intentions can not be determined.

“I’m very strong on illegal immigration”. She doesn’t, and I think the people in her great state, I love her state, I’m there a lot, and by the way I have a massive lead in SC.

OBAMA: This is not a matter of political correctness. He noted how in previous years Republicans “who had national political ambitions didn’t fare very well in the role”.

On Wednesday, Haley urged Trump – laughably to anybody who has been paying attention to the campaign – not to overreact to her comments. “That is just not true”. “Often, the best thing we can do is turn down the volume”. When the sound is quieter, you can actually hear what someone else is saying.

As for Trump, 69, the billionaire didn’t publicly react to Haley’s speech.

Fortunately, readers don’t have to guess.

Following her response, one of the top Mr Trump supporter had called for her deportation.

“He was one of them. Yes”.

“We see Republicans who are not always being responsible with their words in terms of extending our tent, making sure that people who abide by our laws and abide by our traditions feels accepted in this country”, she added.

“It’s the first time in my life I can remember the response to the State of the Union not going after the President, but rather going off on the front-runner of, in this case, her own party”, Rush Limbaugh said.

Responding to Ann Coulter’s tweet about theoretically deporting Nikki Haley, the chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party called the idea “despicable”.

Asked if he would consider Haley, touted by many as a vice presidential pick who could potentially broaden the appeal of the GOP ticket next fall, as his running mate, Trump was cool. He said voters should reject any policy that targets people for their race or religion. But Jeb Bush and Chris Christie both gave her attaboys, and Haley herself acknowledged that Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell had vetted and approved her remarks in advance.

“We need to recognize our contributions to the erosion of the public trust in America’s leadership”, she said of Republicans.

In contrast, Penny Nance – president and chief executive officer of Concerned Women for America – is downplaying the concerns many conservatives are voicing about Haley’s comment.
