Celine Dion’s husband Rene Angelil dies at 73

Celine Dion’s husband Rene Angelil has died at 73 after a long and courageous battle against cancer, his reps explained exclusively to People Magazine on Thursday 14 of January.

“With heavy hearts, we regret to inform you that Celine performances Saturday, Jan. 16 and Sunday, Jan. 17 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace have been cancelled”, the statement reads.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Rene Angelil was a former singer-turned-manager when he received an audiotape of a 12-year-old singer from her mother.

According to his reps, Rene Angelil passed away at his home in Las Vegas and his family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment. This is the first public appearance for Angelil since undergoing cancer treatments.

In Angelil’s hometown of Montreal, Mayor Denis Coderre said flags at city hall would fly at half-mast to honour the man who “influenced the world with Quebecois music and the culture of our nation”.

“Knowing he’s got a lot of weight on his shoulder…it’s very touching for me because he wants me to have a good time”.

Mr Fudenberg said no further investigation into the death is expected.

She returned to performing last year after a year-long hiatus to look after Mr Angelil.

News of Angelil’s death triggered an outpouring of sympathy from Dion’s fans, with the singer’s name trending on Twitter worldwide.

“We don’t know what the future holds”, she says, adding that Rene told her to be “back, strong, [to] do it, still share your passion”. “Thank U for Celine + for giving her my songs Thank U for everything + I’m hoping there r casinos in Heaven”. He also has three grown up children from a previous relationship.

At the time, no funeral plans have been made public but per Dion’s spokesperson.

She also said that she wished for her husband to die in her arms.
