Allen’s late goal helps Liverpool settle with PL draw against Arsenal

The Frenchman has divided opinion as to whether he has the pedigree to lead the line in a title-winning side but there would have been few dissenters when he swivelled and stroked the ball into the net to put Arsenal ahead on 55 minutes.

Early in Jurgen Klopp’s reign the German had complained about the players mentality not being able to respond to late setbacks.

Arsenal played with much more objective and organisation in the second half as star midfielder Mesut Ozil got his foot on the ball more often, while Joel Campbell was also a threat with his powerful surges down the right-hand side.

“It is not always possible”. I think that is where we have to look at ourselves – that should not happen.

John Giles reckons Mesut Ozil let Arsenal down last night with his performance against Liverpool.

The Liverpool boss said: “I’m not too close with the news about Manchester United”.

Klopp, who has consistently backed Mignolet, added: “On the second goal, on a flawless day he can make a save but there were a lot of mistakes before. They are the best matches to perform”.

“It was a great football game, how it should be”, Kopp said.

“At the end we made a real good game and needed luck to make the draw and I think we deserved it”.

After 21 games in the Premier League this season, the Merseyside outfit are ninth in the table, three points below sixth-placed United.

The Black Cats climbed above the Magpies and secured three vital points towards safety as they beat relegation rivals Swansea 4-2 at the Liberty Stadium, largely thanks to a Jermain Defoe hat-trick and a red card for the hosts.

Watford lost a third straight game as they went down 2-0 to Southampton, who scored in either half through Shane Long and Dusan Tadic.

Below is a selection of match reports from the mainstream media that will give you an idea of how things panned out if you were unable to watch the game.

“If we can be strong, and the fans push us like they did against Arsenal, that can give us something extra”.

On the other hand Liverpool fans have already seen Coutinho and Sturridge play together, as they are well aware what the duo can offer going forward. “We just need to keep putting in the same level of effort and the results will come”.

Firmino’s goal was a bad one from Arsenal’s perspective, though, with goalkeeper Petr Cech proving fallible when dealing with Emre Can’s initial shot.

“The second goal, the set-play, he (Simon Mignolet) needs help from all the players”.

The German was far happier and more forthcoming when discussing the form of Brazilian Firmino, however, after he scored his first home goals for the club.
