Meet Ben McAdoo, Whom the Giants Will Reportedly Promote to Head Coach

And now, according to reports, it looks like they’ll be promoting from within the organization: Ben McAdoo, the team’s offensive coordinator for the past two seasons, is said to be close to a multi-year deal to become the team’s new head coach.

Even if Coughlin fits the profile, however, he remains an interesting choice for a franchise looking for its next mainstay.

“He has demonstrated some of that intensity, exhibiting a Coughlin-level focus during practices and in meetings”.

The Eagles continue their search for a head coach, while their previous head coach – Chip Kelly – was announced as the San Francisco 49ers’ 17 head coach in team history on Thursday. If you end up with your fourth or fifth option in a year that’s viewed as a weak coaching crop, that’s less than ideal.

The Eagles had previously interviewed McAdoo for their opening.

Thursday’s announcement caps a relatively quick rise to what many argue is the best available job in the NFL.

Spagnulo returned to the Giants last season after a run as the team’s defensive coordinator in 2007 and 2008.

Now that McAdoo is in place, however, NY still has to answer a question that – ultimately – is up to him and general manager Jerry Reese: How do they fix a depleted roster and a defense that ranked dead last in the National Football League, allowing 420.3 yards per game?

He served as the team’s offensive coordinator the past two seasons.

Coughlin parted ways with the New York Giants a week ago after posting his second straight six-win season. Perhaps the New York Giants wanted to go after someone with significant coaching experience who can be their head coach for a long time.

McAdoo spent the past two seasons directing Big Blue’s offense, but suffered through a pair of 6-10 campaigns that led to Coughlin’s resignation.

The Cleveland Browns officially hired Hue Jackson on Wednesday.

Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) noted on Twitter: “With Tom Coughlin out of the picture, the Eagles now are expected to pursue Chiefs OC Doug Pederson as their next head coach, per source”. He was coaching, I don’t recall the school, somewhere up in NY or Connecticut [McAdoo was at Fairfield in 2002, Pittsburgh in 2003], and we talked on the phone that evening and then the next day at lunch.
