The December debate was the third-most-watched one in debate tracking history, according to CNN. Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, Sen.

Rand Paul was originally scheduled to appear in the undercard round as well, but once he found out he hadn’t made the main stage, he chose to skip the debate altogether. “By any reasonable criteria Senator Paul has a top tier campaign”, his campaign said in a statement Tuesday. The remaining candidates will be in the earlier debate. Additionally, the debate should give way for a Trump-Cruz clash, as the two are closely tied in Iowa polls. An “undercard” debate will begin at 5pm CDT. Tonight, FOX Business Network holds the first debate of 2016 in North Charleston, South Carolina. Gov. Mike Huckabee and former Pa. Sen. Gov. Jeb Bush and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

How candidates were divided: The prime-time candidates placed among the top six in an average of recent national polls, or in the top five in an average of recent New Hampshire and Iowa polls.

Fox Business’ debates are the first of the election year and will focus on economic, domestic and global policy issues.

They will also livestream it for desktop and mobile devices on their website, FOXbusiness.com.

“I’ll tell you, I’m not going to be taking legal advice from Donald Trump”, Cruz said. Fox Business’ previous debate coverage drew 13.5 million total viewers and 3.7 million viewers between 25 and 54, the demographic more desired by advertisers. It’s just a formula for disaster.
