New York Giants Promote Ben McAdoo From OC to HC

They meant to interview Cincinnati offensive coordinator Hue Jackson on Thursday, but he accepted the Browns job hours before the Giants decided on McAdoo.McAdoo also impressed the Philadelphia Eagles when he interviewed for their coaching vacancy. The Eagles are seeking a replacement for Chip Kelly, who was sacked five days before Philadelphia’s season-ending victory over Coughlin and the Giants.

When the Giants hired McAdoo back in 2014, he was expected to succeed Coughlin as the team’s next head coach.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday reported that the Eagles “have turned their attention” towards Coughlin’s direction, before later releasing news that Coughlin removed his name from consideration.

The Eagles could conduct more interviews, but as of now, many fans seem to be concerned with the options. The Eagles were prepared to offer McAdoo a contract before he accepted the Giants job, two league sources told The Inquirer on Wednesday night.

“And so we begin the Ben McAdoo era listening to smart people talk about what a bright offensive mind he is, and how players will take to him, and how he has all the tools to succeed, and win, and win big, and maybe he does”. Kansas City plays at New England on Saturday. The Eagles can not hire Pederson until the Chiefs’ season ends.

Now he is being asked to revive a team that won two Super Bowls under Coughlin before falling on hard times.

The Eagles requested an interview with Paul Guenther, defensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals, who were eliminated from the wild card round of the playoffs.

The Eagles have interest in Teryl Austin, defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions, also per reports. Koetter spoke with the Bucs about their head coaching opening, as well as the 49ers per reports. Bill Parcells did. It’s why McAdoo ended up wearing an ill-fitting suit, a few sizes too large thanks to his recent weight loss – “About a third grader”, he joked.

Manning, who was visibly emotional when Tom Coughlin resigned earlier this month, reportedly lobbied ownership to bump McAdoo up to head coach. Marion Campbell was the head coach in that era.
