One ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven convenience store in Chino Hills, east of Los Angeles, officials said.
The numbers drawn for Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot were 8, 27, 34, 4, 19 and Powerball: 10.
Three winners in California, Florida and Tennessee will split the profits of a world record $1.6 billion lottery jackpot.
“I was hoping it was a gentleman who plays every morning as you don’t scratch tickets but he said it wasn’t him”, said one player. Last year, it contributed $1.39 billion.
The Naifeh family was awarded $25,000 for selling the winning ticket. In 2013, the Publix supermarket at 7838 Fall Blvd., in Zephyrhills received $85,000 when a victor purchased a ticket there that won the $590.5 million jackpot.
Auto body shop worker Jerry Caudle said he was “freaking out” when he heard a winning ticket was sold in his town, but it turned out he matched only two numbers, for a prize of $14. The other 11 were sold in Cloverdale, Gardena, Irwindale, Nipton, Pacoima, Redlands, Santa Cruz, Santa Monica, Santa Rosa, Tustin and Vacaville.
Officials also said 12 tickets were sold in California that matched five of the six winning numbers but not the Powerball number. While Dole said he wants to buy a new house, and plans to travel with his wife to someplace warm.
Dozens of Twitter accounts emerged claiming to be benevolent winners of the prize, willing to donate thousands of dollars to be people who retweeted their message. No one has claimed that prize yet, said Michigan Lottery spokesman Jeff Holyfield. The one in Chino Hills, where the winning ticket was sold, was the third franchise he purchased and he has owned it for 24 years.
The next drawing is Saturday with a jackpot of $40 million.
Meanwhile, 73 tickets won $1 million prizes.
