California traffic officials closed down both the eastbound and westbound lanes of the I-10 at Eagle Mountain Rd. The fire was out before 3:30 p.m., according to the highway patrol.
Officials reported State Routes 177 and 78 also remain closed due to flooding.
There was no estimated time to reopen the roadway.
Caltrans structural engineers would be arriving at the scene sometime Monday morning to assess the damage, as well as other surrounding washes and structures in the immediate area of the collapsed bridge, a news release from the agency stated.
“The 10 is a dire situation”, Kasinga told the Riverside Press-Enterprise.
Desert Center is less than three hours (about 200 miles) west of Phoenix.
Motorists were advised to use detour routes such as Arizona Route 95 to Interstate 40, or Interstate 8 to State Route 111 to Route 86 to get around the closure.
