Arsenal laid down benchmark for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool ambitions, claims ex

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp labelled Manchester United managerial legend Alex Ferguson “the John Lennon of football” and defended current Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal.

However, with media reporting that Mignolet is set to sign a new five-year contract, Klopp said the goalkeeper was not the only one to blame for the blunders.

From the CS gas attack by a Liverpool fan on Manchester United players and staff at Anfield in 1986, to Liverpool striker Luis Suarez racially abusing United’s Patrice Evra in 2011, few meetings between these ancient enemies have passed off without a notable outpouring of hatred. They seem to have developed a strong relationship, and more often than not they outplayed Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini.

The Reds were involved in a topsy-turvy Premier League clash at home on Wednesday night against Arsenal and, having led twice, the hosts managed to scrape a point in stoppage-time after Olivier Grioud’s second had put the Gunners 3-2 ahead.

Into the maelstrom of derby enmity steps Klopp, who has already fallen out with Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce, West Bromwich Albion chief Tony Pulis and Chelsea assistant coach Jose Morais.

Meanwhile, Klopp backed Van Gaal, who has been criticised for his team’s playing style, by paying tribute to his track record, despite the pair’s vastly different styles and past battles when they were at Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

“All of them were really good, ideal goals, the first goal was really good, the second spectacular, brilliant”. “It wasn’t a good night for a defender though, conceding three goals”.

The players who had made comebacks from injury against Arsenal had all come through unscathed, Klopp said, although he joked that veteran centre-back Kolo Toure was “still in the ice bath”.

“United scored three in their last game, and so did we”.

“Confidence is important but it’s not only that you can get it in “big” games”.

While it might be hard to trust either side at the usual odds given their current form this offer means that punters can get a significantly larger potential win from their investment, an offer which significantly improves the appeal of attempting to identify the victor of this game.

Tittle contender, Manchester City were denied a clear last-minute penalty as they drew 0-0 with Everton at the Etihad Stadium.

“I could talk about this for half an hour, but to be honest I think it should be normal because I know how good he is”, Klopp said at a news conference.

“We showed character and resilience against Arsenal and we didn’t give up until the end of the game”.
