Can you believe this lottery victor didn’t run to the store and confirm that their ticket is worth one-third of a $1.5 billion jackpot?!
John, a father of two, said he bought the four tickets as he always does to represent the four members of their family, with the computer choosing the winning numbers of 04, 08, 19, 27, 34 and Powerball 10.
The odds of picking a winning combination were one in 292 million.
The prospect of a huge payout sparked a ticket-buying frenzy that was expected to reach a rate of US$1.3 million per minute during the evening commuter rush hour, Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas lottery, told a news conference.
With each state setting its own lottery rules, the California retailer will get a $1 million bonus for selling the jackpot-winning ticket, while the Florida retailer, located in a tiny coastal town, will get $100,000.
The next Powerball drawing will be held Saturday, January 16, at 10:59 p.m. ET with an estimated $40 million jackpot. “How lucky that the first time I played, I won!”
This week’s Powerball jackpot created a buzz that was felt around the world.
“I was watching TV, my store show up”, said Balbir Atwal, the California’s storeowner.
That brings the total of winners to at least three after an earlier winning ticket was announced in Southern California.

Earlier in the week, Rechnitz purchased 25,000 powerball tickets for his employees and many people thought the wining tickets was part of the group of tickets that Rechnitz bought. On Thursday, The California Lottery presented the owner of the convenience store with a $1 million check. Lottery officials stated that no one has come forward to claim the prize. Powerball tickets are sold in 44 states, as well as the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
