Rene Angelil, Husband Of Celine Dion, Dies at 73

It was Celine Dion’s husband, René Angélil, who encouraged the singer to resurrect her Las Vegas concert series past year, but in light of Angélil’s death yesterday (January 14), Dion has canceled at least two upcoming dates.

Celine Dion’s husband Rene Angelil died of cancer on Thursday.

In 1981, a then 12-year-old Dion submitted a demo tape to Angelil, who later agreed to manage the budding songstress.

Celine returned to her residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in August 2015 after taking a year off to care for her husband.

Eventually the couple landed in Las Vegas where Dion played almost 1,000 shows, earning her more millions. Not long after, Dion announced another brief retirement from her singing career.

Celine Dion and Rene Angelil began to see each other romantically, and were Wednesday when the young singer was 26 at the Basilica Notre-Dame in Montreal, Quebec, on 17 December 1994. Last year, his health got so bad she had to scrap her Las Vegas shows to rush to his bedside.

Following the tragic news, Celine immediately cancelled the performances, which were due to take place at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Saturday and Sunday. “He fought a long hard battle”, while Gloria Estefan tweeted: “RIP Rene Angelil, great friend & human being!The world will take @celinedion &ur boys into its arms & continue 2 love & care 4 them 4 U”. “He’s been there for me all my life, and I’ve been there for him all my life”, said the star. In 2010 their family grew again when Celine gave birth to fraternal twins, Eddy and Nelson.
