On Thursday, Walsh met with the local elementary school students who did their best to lift the kicker’s spirits.
Minnesota Vikings kicker Blair Walsh was a 27-yard chip shot away from nearly certainly putting his team into the divisional round of the National Football League playoffs, but his kick went wide left.
That said, there is another segment of the world that – fairly or not – will continue to blister Walsh for that kick. “I felt embarrassed.” Sort of a first grade twist on “he who is without sin” and something 140-character backshooters out there should consider before hitting send. They just know I’m a Vikings player.
Kicker Blair Walsh signs autographs.
“These kids really made a difference in my life so I thought I’d come and help make their day, ” Walsh said.
And some packed in multiple uplifting messages, that really didn’t have much to do with each other but surely made Walsh feel good just the same.
Not many athletes had a worse Sunday than Blair Walsh.
“It’s a great teaching point”, Walsh said.
“The fan base that’s not kind, I’m not anxious about”. The story about the first-graders has received tremendous national play.

Afterwards, Allen took to Twitter, calling the game one of the “most memorable” that he has ever called.
