Newton was able to solve Seattle in a 27-23 win last October but the playoffs are a different challenge.

“To be honest with you, I don’t think we were ready for it (last year)”.

When the game kicks off at 1:05 pm Eastern time, though, this will be just as closely fought a game from beginning to end. It really doesn’t matter.

Carolina is 15-1 SU in its last 16 games. Carroll said. “Not always do we know”. In last year’s NFC divisional playoff, Russell Wilson threw for three touchdowns, including a 25-yard strike to Willson in the fourth quarter that gave the Seahawks a 24-10 lead.

Green Bay was in the midst of an offensive slump at the time but they appear to have turned the corner after a flashy 35-18 wild-card victory over the Washington Redskins last week. “He has that Brett Favre in him a good bit”, Norman said. Granted, if majority remain Vikings fans long enough, they’ll get there, but for now this is a nice reminder of where priorities should probably lie. But who cares about them. But miraculous may not be the right word for a guy who has a habit.

This season has been nothing short of wonderful for the Panthers. Friday was no different, with music blaring and players joking in the locker room after practice. “Straight characters. It’s fun”.

Asked whether he knows what to expect from Lynch, Carroll said, “We’ll figure that out as the game goes”. “That doesn’t get to us too much”.

Then there’s that last-minute loss to New England in the Super Bowl last season they’ve been determined to move past.

In Arizona on Saturday, the Cardinals vow not to be complacent despite thrashing the Packers in the penultimate game of their regular season.

But the focus now is on moving forward. The two NFC teams meet in Charlotte as the Panthers have the homefield advantage for the remainder of the playoffs.

“You are not sure how many more you are going to get”, he said. The individual matchups and the Xs and Os are one thing, but the bottom line is that both teams are built in a way that doesn’t allow anything to come easily for opponents. With two defenses playing lights out, it might just be another low scoring affair.
