Secretary of State John Kerry will travel to Vienna, Austria, on Saturday for consultations with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif and European Union High Representative Federica Mogherini on implementation of the Iranian nuclear agreement.
United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said there could be a meeting in relation to Iran on Saturday in Vienna, where the July 14 deal was reached, but did not elaborate.
However, a US official said this was “one of many preparatory steps” Washington had to take to ease sanctions once the IAEA verifies Iran has met its nuclear obligations.
Iranian and other officials had previously said they expected the report to come out on Friday.
House spokesman Josh Earnest said Iran was making important progress toward curbing its nuclear program and that it was possible the Islamic Republic had already completed the necessary steps.
There is “not going to be a flood” of business into Iran because there is “still a tangled web” of sanctions. S. sailors who veered into Iranian waters. Iran has always insisted its nuclear programme was purely for peaceful purposes.
“In practice, it appears that your administration has allowed Iran to dictate the implementation of the nuclear deal by not taking punitive action for any of these transgressions”. These nominees include Laura Holgate, a non-proliferation expert nominated over five months ago to serve as ambassador to the U.N. Agencies in Vienna, and Adam Szubin, an expert on global sanctions and terrorist financing, nominated last April to a critical post at Treasury.
“We have the ability to snap sanctions back in place”, he said. Iranian banks will re-establish connections with the European financial system and private firms will be able to pursue business opportunities without fear of western punishment.
Rhodes said he expects new sanctions to be rolled out “relatively soon” related to Iran’s recent ballistic missile launches. Around $30bn (£21bn) of a total of $100bn in frozen assets will be released to Iran.
