McAdoo faces a big challenge.

If anyone demonstrates this noble commitment to the sport and his team and their fans, it’s Tom Coughlin. Last week, it seemed like we couldn’t get that right. Maybe. But we don’t know. Ben knows where we need to improve.
“I’m hardened, I’m battle-tested, and I’ve been groomed for this job”, McAdoo said, per the New York Daily News’ Ralph Vacchiano.
Long known as a defense-first team that has won games – and championships – with an old-school approach, the Giants are heading into the future with an altered philosophy.
He answered questions with a savvy beyond his years, giving you the impression NY will not scare him in the least, will not rattle him the way it did Ray Handley.
McAdoo, who signed a four-year deal, said he would welcome Coughlin’s return to the facility should he accept owner John Mara’s offer to join the club in an advisory role. That is faulty thinking.
One thing he did say was that he could continue Coughlin’s tradition of keeping the digital clocks at the team’s East Rutherford training facility set five minutes fast. McAdoo has respect for Coughlin’s intense preparation methods, which is hardly a surprise since the no-nonsense McAdoo has apparently lived by that ethos his entire life. To honor his mentor, McAdoo won’t. “I’m hardened, I’m battle-tested, and I’ve been groomed for this job”.
Even Packers head coach McCarthy chimed in: “Can’t tell you how proud I am”. This likely wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone in the Giants organization.
Manning, who was visibly emotional when Tom Coughlin resigned earlier this month, reportedly lobbied ownership to bump McAdoo up to head coach. Like the Giants, Philadelphia also interviewed McAdoo last week. They believe in the way he works, the way he leads and the way he coaches. “I could’ve been happy with any one of them”. I learned that in 1974 when we hired Bill Arnsparger, who’s the defensive genius of all time and it didn’t work out for us back then. Coughlin and the Giants obviously split on bitter terms, but the old NY coach has reportedly taken his name out of the running for the vacancy in Philadelphia, and San Francisco has hired Chip Kelly, so it appears Coughlin won’t be coaching anytime soon. He joined the National Football League in 2004 as an offensive quality control assistant with the New Orleans Saints, spent a year with the 49ers the following year and then joined the Green Bay Packers for the next eight seasons, working with the tight ends and the final two years as Aaron Rodgers’ quarterback coach.
With McAdoo as head coach, the Giants establish a sense of stability to an offensive that ranked in the top 10 in all major offensive categories in 2015 and now look to improve on what they established while McAdoo served as coordinator. After winning their second Super Bowl under Coughlin, the…
McAdoo, who has been the Giants offensive coordinator the past two seasons, will be introduced at a news conference on Friday morning.
New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese has often been criticized in regards to his personnel decisions and roster construction under his regime.

The key to the Giants deciding to promote McAdoo was Manning.
