Firefighters responded around 1:40 p.m.to a report of a vehicle fire on Interstate 5 near Ridgefield.
Two adults, four children and their dog sought emergency lodging through the Red Cross after their vehicle, which doubled as their home, caught fire Thursday afternoon while traveling over the East Fork of the Lewis River.
The organization is inviting members of the community to help install smoke detectors and distribute fire-safety information during the event, according to a news release. Every household should develop a fire escape plan and practice it several times a year and at different times of the day.
You should also test smoke alarms once a month to make sure they’re working and change the batteries if they are not.
