An “essential” factor in Guzman’s eventual arrest was the drug lord’s meeting with Hollywood star Sean Penn in Guzman’s remote mountaintop hideout in the Mexican state of Durango in early October, Mexico’s attorney general Arely Gomez said on Monday. On Wednesday, January 13, the Wall Street Journal reported that the drug lord’s obsession with Mexican actress Kate del Castillo, and his frequent communication with her, was also a key contribution to his recapture.

Still, speaking on condition of anonymity, another senior Mexican official later said the government had no interest in letting the process drag out. In the wildly popular series, she plays a woman who, through a mix of tragic and unfortunate events, becomes a drug queen.
The marines are heard giving orders as they advance, and a wounded man says at one point: “They got me”.
Del Castillo’s representatives did not respond to email requests to comment on the texts. So, you know…that’s probably a great idea.
According to intelligence sources cited by El Universal, Guzman spent Christmas last year with his current wife and daughters, but just a few days later spent New Year’s with Lucero Guadalupe Sanchez Lopez, who is a local legislator in Mexico’s conservative National Action Party (PAN).
Following his capture Friday, Guzman told authorities he escaped that raid by scrambling down the hillside before meeting up with one of his bodyguards.
The explanation might simply have been infatuation – something that would not be out of character for Guzman. That Guzman has a weakness for women?
Penn has been largely silent since Rolling Stone published his 10,000-word account of meeting with Mexico’s most wanted man, but CBS “This Morning” co-host Charlie Rose said Tuesday that Penn had agreed to an interview with him.
According to documents seen by Reuters, IMPI rejected two applications to trademark the names “Joaquin El Chapo Guzman” and “El Chapo Guzman” in 2011, filed by Alejandrina Gisselle Guzman, who is believed to be his daughter.
But the lawyer mentioned in that exchange denied having ever had any discussions about such an arrangement with Guzman or any of his representatives. It’s a sprawling building, which no doubt contributed to El Chapo’s ability to escape through a secret tunnel.
