TNT plans special Martin Luther King Jr. Day pregame show

The federal holiday honoring the birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.is slated this coming Monday with several local businesses and offices planning to be closed.

Three students and members of the church signed up to give three-to-five minute speeches about Martin Luther King Jr. and his philosophies. Many opportunities to serve our communities can be found at CaliforniaVolunteers.org. The panelists will be Lydia Brassard, Bennington College Diversity Officer; Chris Williams, Shires Housing Board Member; Mike Owens, Veterans Legal Service Advocate; Matthew Harrington, Director Bennington Chamber of Commerce; Dr. David Evans, President Southern Vermont College; Abigail Belcrest, Williams College Women of Islam. The Martin Luther King, Jr.

“It’s a joyous time, we really try to keep this as a celebration…” The 87th birthday celebration for Dr. King will be held on his actual birthday, Friday, January 15, 2016 in the Heritage Sanctuary of Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church at 407 Auburn Avenue from 1:00 – 2:00 PM. Day, Monday, Mount Rainier National Park and all national parks (nps.gov/findapark/feefreeparks.htm); fees waived at U.S. Forest Service day-use recreation sites including picnic areas, boat launches, trailheads (not SnoParks), Monday (fs.usda.gov/r6). “This is one of my favorite quotes, ‘Each day we make decisions that will affect not only ourselves but our communities, our families, and ultimately our great nation, ‘” George said. “So we strive every year to do better and include more”, said Cheney.

“I think it’s important because it signals to the world, primarily to Luzerne County and the Commonwealth, but to the world, that we acknowledge Martin Luther King’s accomplishments”, said Guerline Laurore with the Wilkes-Barre NAACP.
