The late musician, who guided Celine’s career, was first diagnosed with throat cancer back in 1999.
“He fought a long hard battle”, while Gloria Estefan tweeted: “RIP Rene Angelil, great friend & human being! The world will take @celinedion &ur boys into its arms & continue 2 love & care 4 them 4 U”. “The family wishes to mourn in private”, her website said.
Celine Dion has cancelled her upcoming Las Vegas shows following the death of her husband.
The family has requested privacy, but promised to released more details at a later date.
She has been a regular performer at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas since 2003. In August 2014, Dion suspended her Las Vegas concert series to be by his side while he underwent serious treatment, but returned to the stage upon his insistence in 2015. They officially began a relationship in 1987 and were engaged in 1991, and married in 1994.
She has now cancelled shows on Saturday (16Jan16) and Sunday (17Jan16), the only dates before a scheduled break, to give herself more than a month to mourn following the death of her husband of 21 years, with whom she has three sons.

The pair first met when Dion was only 12 and he was 38 after her brother sent Angelil a recording of Dion singing. “Like I said to my children, ‘You want to come and help me feed papa today…You want to help me out?” He was Celine’s former manager and the couple shared three children, René-Charles, 14, and 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy.
