The Saudi government on January 3 announced that Riyadh was severing its diplomatic relations with Tehran following angry protests in Tehran at the execution of Sheikh Nimr by Riyadh.
“The Ministerial Council discussed the repercussions of the attack on the Saudi embassy in Tehran and the Saudi consulate in the Iranian city of Mashhad”.
Iran has dismissed a security official over the attack on the Saudi Embassy in Tehran, which led Riyadh and several of its allies to cut or downgrade ties with the Islamic republic.
The dispute has raised fears of increased sectarian unrest across the Middle East and concerns it could derail efforts to resolve a range of conflicts, including in Yemen and Syria, where Saudi Arabia and Iran support opposing sides.
“This has fallen on deaf ears in Saudi Arabia”, Zarif said.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has accused Saudi Arabia of supporting extremists and “promoting sectarian hatred” and urged Riyadh to instead engage in promoting regional stability.
However, they were not prepared for such a game with Iran, he said, adding that Saudi Arabia should not be permitted to impose the costs of its destructive policies on the region. At a meeting in Cairo on Sunday, foreign ministers from the 22-member-state body advised against so-called interference in the internal affairs of its nations.
“The Tension in relations between Saud Arabia and Iran, has a potential to deepen the existing problems in our region”, Cavusoglu said at the opening speech of the 8th (Turkish) Ambassadors Conference in Ankara.
He said Iran intentionally avoided to protect Saudi diplomatic posts.
Both countries had joined global talks launched in Vienna past year that backed an 18-month plan to end the conflict and foresees further talks on January 25.

Iran responded by accusing Saudi warplanes of bombing its embassy in Yemen and that Riyadh was using the row to hurt peace talks in Syria.
