Compared to Windows 7 PC’s, Skylake when combined with Windows 10, enables up to 30x better graphics and 3x the battery life – with the unmatched security of Credential Guard utilizing silicon supported virtualization.

If you have a laptop or a PC, you might be aware that there were mandatory updates to Windows 10 lately. In an email sent to members of the Windows Insider Program, Microsoft says that it’s working on bringing the Word Flow keyboard to other platforms, starting with iOS.

Next generation processors, including Intel’s “Kaby Lake”, Qualcomm’s 8996 (branded as Snapdragon 820), and AMD’s “Bristol Ridge” APUs (which will use the company’s Excavator architecture, not its brand new Zen arch) will only be supported on Windows 10.

The change doesn’t take effect immediately, Skylake CPUs will still be supported on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 through July 2017. In other words, this means that even after upgrading their hardware systems, firms were able to keep using an old version of Windows.

The new Windows Store has seen 3 billion visits, and more universal apps are now available for Windows 10 – including Netflix, Pandora, Shazam, TuneIn Radio, Twitter, and Uber. The move is bound to disappoint some Windows Phone customers but under Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella the company has been steadily releasing its software across many platforms.

He also said that Windows 7 will continue to be supported for security, reliability and compatibility through January 14, 2020 on previous generation silicon.

Microsoft is urging all Windows 8 users to upgrade as official support for the three-year-old operating system has come to an end. It’s always been true that Microsoft and Intel work very closely together to ensure that the latest version of Windows supports the latest Intel chipset innovations. The support will be through July 17, 2017 and Microsoft expects the owners to upgrade to its latest OS in the 18-month period.

PC World received a list of electronics that sport the Skylake processors and that will still get regular updates for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 in the following 18 months. Both CPUs will feature Windows 10 compatibility out of the box.

Apparently, the statement was a good selling point for Windows 10, but not for users who doesn’t want to update their old system.

If you ever wanted an example of Windows as a Service and having one supported version of Windows, then this is it. By stating they will only support the latest hardware with the latest version of Windows Microsoft is beginning to set expectations on what customers will see from the company and it will allow Microsoft to optimize and consolidate the efforts needed to support those customers.
