“Shakoor is missing along with his two friends, Gazi Ahmad Dar, aged 20 and Aaqib Ahmad Dar aged 17”.
Mr. Bhat, a known counter-insurgency cop, was seriously injured on December 24 when militants opened fire at him from a close range. During the probe conducted at the Bijbehara police station, four assault rifles were found missing. It is suspected that the constable took the rifles with him, the police official said, adding an alert has been sounded in south Kashmir area to trace the “deserter”.
This incident comes barely a few months after such cases surfaced in the Kashmir Valley.
Pertinently, on 29 May previous year a policeman Naseer Ahmad Pandit guarding the house of the then J&K roads and building minister Altaf Bukhari decamped with two rifles.
Anantnag: In a major security contravene, a policeman decamped with four service rifles from the residence of a top police officer on Friday night.
