Critic: Lack of non-white Oscar nominees not Academy’s fault
“Oscars 2016 slammed for being “too white” again Besides Hardy, the best supporting actor award nominees are this year’s Golden Globe victor Sylvester Stallone (‘Creed“), Mark Rylance for “Bridge of Spies”, Mark Ruffalo for “Spotlight” and Christian Bale (‘The Big Short”). “We need to bring in new talent, to nourish the talent, to allow it to flourish and to give us all the diversity of storytelling which is what the motion picture business is all about”. DiCaprio has been nominated for the best actor category for the Oscars this year. Some 6,000 members of the Academy, all of them who work in the film industry, voted for the films, actors and directors that will be vying for an Oscar on February 28.

“And to the Taraji P. Hensons, the Kerry Washingtons, the Halle Berrys, the Nicole Beharies, the Meagan Goods, to Gabrielle Union: Thank you for taking us over that line”. “I do wonder if enough of them saw ‘Straight Outta Compton, ‘ because I talked to a couple people who said, ‘that’s not my kind of music, ‘ and I said, ‘you know this isn’t a music video”, Awards Editor for Variety Tim Gray said.
After last year’s #OscarsSoWhite fiasco, Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs stated, “Action needs to be taken to make sure that the industry as a whole is more inclusive with the hiring and the mentoring and the promoting of diverse product and diversity among filmmakers”.
Leonardo DiCaprio just recently picked up the Best Actor award at the Golden Globes.
DeCruz also said she’s not surprised given the makeup of the Academy.
For DiCaprio it’s his fifth career nomination, but he’s still looking for his first win.
So, keen to maintain the momentum, Leonardo Dicaprio was out in force as he promoted his new movie, The Revenant, in Rome, this week. The film, by Tom Hooper (who won best director in 2011 for The King’s Speech), epitomises the kind of historical import, sensitivity and careful good taste – graced by a whiff of present-day topicality – that often defines the classic Academy Award contender, more derisively known as “Oscar bait”.
She even said she was disappointed and that this year’s picks were a “missed opportunity”. Zero Latinas have won. Where roles for black actors and actresses just don’t exist as much as they do for Caucasian actors and actresses? But please, let’s all keep whining about poor Leo, who can’t catch a break. “Making “The Revenant” was one of the most rewarding and collaborative experiences of my life”. Let us discuss it one by one.

But Boone Isaacs admits: “We have got to speed it up”.
