Chelsea 3 Everton 3: Terry nets in 8th minute of injury time

The lengthy celebrations following Ramiro Funes Mori’s late goal might have contributed to the additional minute being added, with Everton believing they had secured a first league win at Stamford Bridge in 21 years after staving off a Chelsea fightback.

The clock was ticking onto 98 minutes when Terry flicked in an equaliser for Chelsea on his 700th club appearance.

The fourth official’s board said seven minutes were being added on.

There were questions over whether Terry was offside or not and it has generally been accepted that he was.

Within five minutes of the restart Terry managed to put the ball into his own net with a botched attempt to clear Leighton Baines’ cross.

First, Costa capitalised on Phil Jagielka’s indecision to sneak between the centre-back and Howard and the striker then returned the favour for Fabregas, producing a clever backheel to find the Spaniard, whose deflected shot from the edge of the area snuck inside the near post. A lot of teams would have thrown the towel in, but the fight and the desire from the squad [was] unbelievable to come back, and [we were] unlucky no to win the game I think.

Another Chelsea loss would have made it 10 defeats in this Premier League campaign and questions over Jose Mourinho’s dismissal would return to haunt Stamford Bridge.

“The level of the refereeing is diabolical”, Martinez told Setanta.

“Terry is offside when Branislav Ivanovic touches it and two yards offside when Oscar does”.

John Stones gave the ball away on the halfway line and Chelsea broke at pace with Fabregas threading a ball through to Willian who forced a good save from Tim Howard.

The recovery, however, was ultimately out of their reach in what was an afternoon to forget for West Ham but one to leave Newcastle optimistic as the season hots up. That’s unacceptable. It’s a decision that should have been given offside. It’s an important one as we’re still undefeated since the manager [Guus Hiddink] has come in.

“It’s a heartbreaking moment for us, because we deserved the three points”. We need to start winning games.

Manchester City’s David Silva, right, celebrates after scoring with teammate Sergio Aguero as Crystal Palace’s Joel Ward, front, lies on the pitch during the English Premier League soccer match between Manchester City and Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester, England, Saturday Jan. 16, 2016.

Hiddink had warned beforehand that Chelsea can not regard themselves as immune from the prospect of relegation so long as they fail to record victories. I accept that, it’s part of the game.
