While Romero has long since moved onto other things, but now the designer released his first Doom level in over two decades.

It’s been 21 years since I made a DOOM level. It’s a boss level replacement for ElMD.

Romero released the level used Doom WAD, the modding tools that Id Software released alongside Doom in the early ’90s.

“After exiting the Computer Station you knew the worst was up ahead”. From there, you should be able to load the level and start reducing demons to chunky marinara sauce without any issues. Phobos Anomaly was one of the few stages in the original Doom not designed by Romero, so I guess he decided it was about time he went back and did things right. Cracks from hell are all over the place as seepage from the portal invades the entire installation.

Though Romero’s new level seems ideally timed to promote the upcoming launch of the new Doom game, which is scheduled to come out at some point in the spring, Romero told VentureBeat that he’s just using Doom to crack his knuckles a bit.

Doom and Quake creator said that he had to work several hours to complete the level added to the oldie shooter, and aged gamers worldwide thank him for every minute he spent doing it.
