Snubs of the 2016 Oscars: Sorkin, Scott and ‘Straight Outta Compton’

Williams said she was surprised by the omission and thought the biographical drama would receive more nominations, to which the rapper-turned-actor replied, “Me too”. For some reason, he doesn’t even receive a nomination in the Academy Awards’ Best Adapted Screenplay category. The people loved the movie, the people supported the movie – No. 1 at the box office, over $200 million worldwide.

“I can’t be mad, you know”. In fact, the only nomination Straight Outta Compton got went to four white people: Jonathan Herman, Andrea Berloff, S. Leigh Savidge, and Alan Wenkus. “I can’t be mad”.

In the film, Ice Cube is portrayed by his real-life son O’Shea Jackson Jr.

Steven Spielberg was also somewhat surprisingly left out of the Best Director candidates, although his film, Bridge of Spies, was nominated in other categories.

The nominees for this year’s Academy Awards were revealed this morning and as always, several seemingly strong contenders failed to make the cut. “There were 305 films eligible this year. You are never going to know what is going to appear on the sheet of paper until you see it”. The #OscarsSoWhite hashtag is already trending again on Twitter.
