Wind Chills to Reach Dangerous Levels in Minnesota This Weekend

High temperatures dropped more than 20 degrees from Sunday to Monday for much of the Northeast. The fresh snow will help to drop temperatures from -5° to -15° with the coldest air in western Iowa.

Let’s start with a handsome byproduct of frigid temperatures. The next few days will be reminiscent of that bitter chill we had to swallow.

Strong northwest winds gusting to 30 miles per hour Sunday morning will cause blowing and drifting. If it does, it would be the coldest air to visit the city since February 10, 2011.

The high on Martin Luther King Day Monday will barely reach the 20s.

Temperatures will rebound on Friday, climbing into the 40s in the afternoon with increasing clouds. The lowest wind chill readings will be 15 below to 25 below zero in the morning. There’s a little more sun on Tuesday, but the cold lingers. 1-3 inches is expected north of USA 6 with lesser amounts south. As much as 3-6 inches will be possible in areas where bands persists, mainly from the Toll Road north into southwest MI. Highs to close out the weekend will probably be limited to the upper 30s to lower 40s.
