The UN nuclear watchdog ruled on Saturday that Iran had abided by an agreement a year ago with six world powers to curtail its nuclear programme, triggering the end of sanctions.

Iran is set to flood the oil market with an extra half a million barrels a day after worldwide sanctions were lifted in a move that has been hailed by the country’s president as a “golden page” in its history.

It is also a crowning achievement for Mr Rouhani, a pragmatic cleric elected in 2013 in a landslide on a promise to reduce Iran’s global isolation. We are not threat to any country.

Switzerland lifted some of its economic sanctions against Iran on Sunday in keeping with the United Nations and European Union. Netanyahu has long called the deal a “historic mistake”, warning that it entrenches the Islamist regime in power, gives Iran tens of billions of dollars in sanctions relief to fund terrorism and destabilize the region, and paves Iran’s path to a nuclear arsenal in the long term.

Rouhani had staked his presidency on the nuclear talks, deepening the diplomacy which involved Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States plus Germany, after taking office in August 2013.

United States student, Matthew Trevithick, was released independently of the exchange on Saturday and was already on his way home. Arrangements are being made for their return. The plane has not taken off for unexplained reasons, according to The Washington Post.

The last measure Iran needed to complete for compliance, the removal of the core from the Arak Heavy Water reactor, was completed Friday.

“The U.S. sanctions-related commitments described in Sections 17.1-17.5 of Annex V of the JCPOA are now in effect”, Kerry added. He had been held more than 544 days. A fifth American was released separately. The student, identified as Matthew Trevithick was detained 40 days after traveling to Iran in September as part of a four-month language program. The U.S. and Iran broke off diplomatic relations after the 1979 hostage-taking at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. Others, dating back to the ’90s, remain, and US firms would still face significant restrictions on how they conduct business with Iran.

USA officials said on Saturday that completion of the prisoner swap deal and the verification of the nuclear deal weren’t linked. Officials view those activities as separate from the nuclear deal.
