Oilers sign goaltender Cam Talbot to 3-year extension

It’s irregular that his even strength save percentage would be lower than his all situation mark, but Talbot hasn’t allowed a short-handed goal this season and has a pretty solid. Calgary vies for its eighth straight victory at Rexall Place on Saturday when it meets the Edmonton Oilers in the latest chapter of the Battle of Alberta.

The Flames were robbed three minutes into the game when Oilers goalie Cam Talbot made a spectacular glove save on Calgary defenseman TJ Brodie.

Mark Fayne scored in regulation for the Oilers (18-23-5), who had lost their previous seven games at home to Calgary.

The Flames went all out in OT and generated their chances, but Talbot held them off and helped take the Oilers to the shootout.

So the Calgary Flames are up 2 games to 1 against the BOA contender the Edmonton Oilers and they’re looking for another win against their closest rival again tonight in Edmonton. Jonas Hiller finished with 36 saves. He’s been one of the Flames’ very best players this season in terms of generating scoring chances and I think his speed would serve him well in 3-on-3 situations.

Edmonton got a goal from an unlikely source midway through the third to tie the contest as Taylor Hall won a faceoff back to Fayne, who sent his first of the season through traffic and past Hiller.

“Whenever you can contribute it’s good, it was a big goal and we needed at that time”, Fayne said. “We did a good job of bouncing back in the second and from the second on, I thought we really took it to them”.

The Oilers begin a two-game trip in Florida against the Panthers on Monday. Flames RW Michael Frolik made his return to the lineup after missing the past 12 games with an upper-body injury. Scratched for the Flames were Lance Bouma (lower body) and Jiri Hudler, who recently re-injured his groin…. RW Zack Kassian made his home debut for Edmonton.
