“It will only happen if we fix our politics”, Obama said.

“He appealed to us to open up the political process and let everyone come in”.

An average of 31.3 million viewers watched as the president spoke for an hour about optimism, change, and the future of the country Tuesday night, according to Nielsen data. He challenged Congress, regardless of who takes over the White House next year, to devise measures aimed at giving “everyone a fair shot at opportunity and security in this new economy”. Obama demands Americans reject politics that target people “because of race or religion”. “That’s the way we make the new economy work better for everybody”. Because of you. I believe in you. Obama did not explain what those reforms are, but he and other Democrats strenuously oppose having voters show identification before casting their ballots.

He continued, adding his commitment to continue to push for change: “But I can’t do these things on my own. It is disturbing to note that under this administration, that in spite of what the president says, it is a fact that our allies have gotten weaker and our enemies have gotten stronger”.

“What I’m asking for is hard”.

OBAMA: This is not a matter of political correctness.

“That’s just hot air”.

“In today’s world, we’re threatened less by evil empires and more by failing states”, he said. “America is about giving everybody willing to work a hand up, and I’d welcome a serious discussion about strategies we can all support, like expanding tax cuts for low-income workers without kids”, Obama said.

With the Republican and Democratic candidates vying to succeed him preparing for the February 1 party caucuses in Iowa, the nation’s first nominating contest, Obama is highlighting the US economic recovery in two states that he lost twice in presidential elections while also laying out his vision for the nation after his presidency is over.

The White House said Mr. Obama was visiting Nebraska and Louisiana because the states are good illustrations of how his policies are helping people. “This is a big country, with different regions and attitudes and interests”.

The president stated powerfully and simply something that we all know: “democracy does require basic bonds of trust between its citizens”. We still have milestones to reach, even milestones to be created. “Our public life withers when only the most extreme voices get attention”. He said in the speech that he would try to do better to bridge the divide. Senator Manchin wants the President to acknowledge and take action to help West Virginia along with the rest of the United States.
