Trump accepts ‘mantle of anger’ from Nikki Haley

It’s certainly that, but her speech last night sort of expanded the theme of who is and who isn’t qualified to be a Republican, and the Republican Party is still anti-conservative.

“During anxious times, it can be tempting to follow the siren call of the angriest voices”. Just months ago she passed a law that finally removed the confederate flag from the South Carolina State House, and then Wednesday – in response to the current conservative backlash against her – she said that the United States has “never in the history of this country passed any laws or done anything based on race or religion”.

Bad as Governor Haley’s not-so-veiled attack on conservatives was, from the perspective of her political future how she has conducted herself after conservatives began to criticize her has been even worse.

Trump’s generations contributions to Haley may explain why in 2011, when Trump was fielding a 2012 presidential run, she said Trump was a “serious candidate”.

Governor Haley, who was endorsed in the 2010 South Carolina Governor’s primary by Mitt Romney and the favor was returned in 2012 when she endorsed him for President in the primary, has now moved into the front ranks as the establishment’s latest star. “I promise you, in the state of SC, they [know what I mean]”, he responded.

Haley did not name Trump, or any other candidate, but the next morning on NBC’s “Today Show”, she stated clearly who the subject of her speech was.

After Lauer read her some of the comments that had been posted on the address, Haley said: “I respect all of those people and understand their opinion, but I disagree”.

Obamacare, we’re going to repeal it and replace it.

“And yes, I am angry”, Trump said. And said, well, she said you were angry.

“I just misspoke”, Johnson said.

When asked did he interpret Obama and Nikki’s remarks as “insults” or as a “badge of honour”, Trump said he took them as truth. “But if my speech causes a conversation about how we treat people in this country and the difference between illegal immigration and legal immigration, that’s a healthy conversation to have”.

Outspoken commentator Ann Coulter tweeted, “Trump should deport Nikki Haley”.

Haley, the daughter of two immigrants from India was, indeed, calling for a more sophisticated approach to immigration, but, as Coulter made clear, immigration has become the biggest lightning rod issue among Republican voters.
