All white field for Oscar acting categories sparks blowback
“I can’t be mad”.

Snubs for the Best Director category go to the denial of Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott-both of whom having won the award before.
Tom Nunan, an academy-award producer and lecturer at the UCLA School of Theatre Film and Television, said change would only come once the Academy expanded its membership to include more minorities. As Trey Taylor, a regular writer for Vogue, The Atlantic, and Interview commented on Twitter, “It’s telling in a film directed by a black dude with five black dudes in leads, they nominate two white scriptwriters”. He was, as he is in everything he does, outstanding.
Figures from brand intelligence platform Amobee indicate the movie occupied 96 per cent of the chat online, followed by new Rocky title Creed starring Michael B Jordan. That might explain the lack of nominations.
Some were outraged that Sylvester Stallone – widely seen as a sentimental favorite – was nominated for best supporting actor for “Creed” instead of Jordan.
One could argue that these demographics may affect which films and performances get nominated. He does pull off the accent well, but the movie wasn’t that compelling and nobody saw it. Straight Outta Compton grossed over $200 million and was the 18th most grossed picture of 2015.
I shudder to think how much good that movie could have done if it had been given half as much visibility as “Philadelphia”. It was one of the Movies of the Year according to AFI, and it made numerous top 10 lists. When you get baked, what do you crave?
“Hey, I made a move called Oscar and I was snubbed”. What about Middle-Eastern actors? I thought I was going to be (behind the camera) but “Straight Outta Compton” was just a major opportunity that I had to seize. Well, he’s been arrested numerous times for punching women. Critics applauded famous actor Idris Elba’s performance and the movie itself received high reviews. It’s a shame his show isn’t more popular, because he’s a great host and it’s amusing. And this year’s Academy Awards will be yet another Rocky Mountain Oscars.
April S. Reign created the hashtag last year, and she noted it’s worse this year. What was the most gratifying part of its success for you? That still doesn’t seem to be enough for fans of the film, and some Oscar prognosticators agree. My mom and sisters would be watching, but I’d be outside playing basketball. And I was glad that William H. Macy didn’t, since he overacted a bit as the father.
“Hollywood only understands one thing – dollars, dollars, dollars – doesn’t understand anything else”.
Oh, and speaking of overacting – Mark Ruffalo is an actor I like. A lot of younger people knew who I was, and who Dr. Dre was, but had no idea we were in a group together.
Cinematography and directing, as fields, are male-dominated, which means we’re left once again with the “is it the chicken or the egg” question: is it because women aren’t given the chance that there are no nominations, or does a lack of nominations fail to inspire faith in women artists and keep them from those jobs?

“I love my Corvette Stingray”. You can’t play the same character time and time again. Your nomination is well deserved. As Chris Rock wrote in his Hollywood Reporter essay, “You’re in L.A, you’ve got to try not to hire Mexicans”.
