Donald Trump Calls Ted Cruz ‘Hypocrite’ for Accepting Loans

The prepared riff, coming after reporters surrounded him at a back entrance here, comes after Trump used the 9/11 attacks in NY as a response to Cruz’s criticism of the real-estate mogul’s values on the debate stage Thursday in Charleston.

The New Yorker said Trump’s retort was his best moment in any debate and “perhaps the only thing he has said in the entire campaign that is worth quoting at length”.

The Texas senator has slammed Trump for embodying “New York values”, including during Thursday’s Fox Business Network debate.

Just hours earlier, Trump had launched a tweet storm, sending several tweets that knocked Cruz over reports that he failed to disclose loans to the Federal Election Commission during his Senate run and questions over his eligibility for the presidency because of his birth in Canada. He said, “Everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal and pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage…”

Cruz “has no trouble taking money from New York City, but he’s quick to insult our people and our values”, said de Blasio.

Cruz’s statement prompted cries for an apology from many New Yorkers and he responded Saturday morning by going on the offensive.

So, among much else that could be said, I think Marco Rubio had an excellent night.

“Say whatever you want”, Trump said in response to the boos.

“And we rebuilt downtown Manhattan, and everybody in the world watched and everybody in the world loved NY and loved New Yorkers. It’s unsafe. And I’ll call him out and I think more and more people are saying you know what it used to be to some people entertaining, it’s not entertaining anymore, it’s risky”, de Blasio previously said on CNN.

Rather than try to attach the old “flip-flopper” label that has plagued politicians from John Kerry to Mitt Romney, they’ve come up with a new catch phrase: “New York values”.

Trump said Cruz “lied” during the debate about his standing in the polls. “I know he voted against New York City when it came to Sandy”, he added, criticizing the Texas senator’s vote against a hurricane relief funding bill that would have sent aid to the storm-hit city in 2013. We don’t say they’re in New Orleans [so] we don’t help them.
