Also Monday, in a meeting with former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani, called on the Saudi leadership to stop creating instability in the region by encouraging hostility toward Iran by other Islamic countries.
The rivalry’s principal battlegrounds are Syria and Yemen.
Barzanji noted that Iraq’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ibrahim Al-Jafari spoke with officials in both countries about the issue multiple times.

But last April, Pakistan’s parliament unanimously voted to decline a Saudi request to participate in its coalition fighting in Yemen against the allegedly Iranian-backed Houthi rebels.
The executions have sent large number of Iranians onto the street, while some of them stormed Saudi diplomatic missions in capital Tehran and the northeastern city of Mashhad. The official would not say which countries would refuse to support the resolution.

“Look, we express our outrage, our disagreement from time to time with the government of Saudi Arabia for their treatment of human rights”, he said in September.
