Also Monday, in a meeting with former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani, called on the Saudi leadership to stop creating instability in the region by encouraging hostility toward Iran by other Islamic countries.
The rivalry’s principal battlegrounds are Syria and Yemen.
Barzanji noted that Iraq’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ibrahim Al-Jafari spoke with officials in both countries about the issue multiple times.
“The Advisor informed the Committee that Saudi Arabia is a close friend of Pakistan”.
While in Saudi, Zhang talked about the situation between Saudi Arabia and Iran and “hopes the relevant parties maintain calm and exercise restraint, step up dialogue and consultations and jointly promote an amelioration of the situation”, the ministry said.
Pakistan is the Muslim world’s second most populous country and its sole nuclear power.
He charged that al-Nimr’s execution was an “act of barbarism” and claimed that Saudi Arabia supports Islamic State.
He said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques were held in high esteem by the people of Pakistan.
Saudi Arabia’s offensive against Iran will likely be limited, as Saudi Arabia runs out of ways to increase the pressure, Iranian political analyst and journalist Kamran Karami told Sputnik Persian.
Al Qaeda has warned Saudi Arabia it will pay for the executions of dozens of its members, saying they were meant to be a new year’s gift to Riyadh’s Western allies aimed at consolidating the rule of the Saud dynasty.
But last April, Pakistan’s parliament unanimously voted to decline a Saudi request to participate in its coalition fighting in Yemen against the allegedly Iranian-backed Houthi rebels.
The executions have sent large number of Iranians onto the street, while some of them stormed Saudi diplomatic missions in capital Tehran and the northeastern city of Mashhad. The official would not say which countries would refuse to support the resolution.

“Look, we express our outrage, our disagreement from time to time with the government of Saudi Arabia for their treatment of human rights”, he said in September.
