Sindh Governor Dr. Ishratul Ibad in a meeting with Rangers director General Major General Bilal Akbar on Wednesday said: “The entire nation is united and stands by the law enforcement agencies for peace”.

A spokesperson for the chief minister said that endorsement for the Rangers’ policing powers would be sought from Sindh Assembly. In the meeting performance of the paramilitary forces in Sindh and particularly in Karachi was discussed.

Simply, some officials believe, the answer is in negative as ceasing to act against the much trumpeted corrupt across the board would leave the Rangers itself in highly compromised state of affairs as well as the entire ongoing targeted operation.

“The Governor Sindh was brief by the Rangers DG upon the efforts of the Rangers for bringing back a peace and improving law and order in the province”, said the Governor House statement.

Their powers will expire on July 8.

Meanwhile, the details acquired by Dawn of the Rangers operation since its launch in September 2013 in Karachi suggested that the paramilitary force seemed more than ever aggressive in chasing suspects and engaging them in “encounters”. A notification to this effect would be issued by the federal interior ministry.
