George Miller still has plans for more Mad Max movies

But just because Miller is down for more Mad Max doesn’t mean that the franchise won’t ever change hands.

Miller reiterates what he’s said for some time now: he’d like to make a smaller movie next before returning to the demanding world of Mad Max, but he does have two sequel stories in mind.

The actor was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for the movie Creed.

Miller has been extremely vocal about just how grueling the shoot for Fury Road was.

Other Australian Fury Road nominees were: production designers Colin Gibson and Lisa Thompson; sound mixer Ben Osmo; sound editor David White; makeup and hairstyling Lesley Vanderwalt, Elka Wardega and Damian Martin; and visual effects Andrew Jackson and Dan Oliver. Fury Road’s English costume designer, Jenny Beavan, is also nominated. It would make some sense for him to change his mind after the Oscar nominations came out this morning, but as it turns out, he never actually said that to begin with. They will compete against Brie Larson for psychological thriller “Room”, Charlotte Rampling for British drama “45 Years” and Saoirse Ronan for immigrant tale “Brooklyn”. The acclaimed film also scored nods for star Leonardo DiCaprio, director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and supporting actor Tom Hardy.

Since the best picture field was expanded from five nominees to up to 10, in 2010, every year has delivered nine nominations until this year’s eight.

It will contend with “The Big Short”, “Bridge of Spies”, “Brooklyn”, “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “The Martian”, “Room” and “Spotlight” for best picture. This led to renewed criticisms that the Academy tends to favour white filmmakers and subjects.

Jennifer Jason Leigh, The Hateful Eight; Rooney Mara, Carol; Rachel McAdams, Spotlight; Alicia Vikander, The Danish Girl; and Kate Winslet, Steve Jobs.

In a statement, DiCaprio, who’s expected to land his first Oscar in his fifth nomination, called making “The Revenent” “one of the most rewarding and collaborative experiences of my life”.
