All eyes in Hollywood are now on Oscar nominations
Those five films earned nominations this week for the Directors Guild of America (DGA) award, which is considered an Oscars bellwether.

Following the #OscarSoWhite discussion a year ago, the Academy again failed to nominate any minority actor or actress for the lead and supporting categories.
Last year, the Academy was accused of lacking diversity in its slate of Oscar nominees – with the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite trending on social media – and some say the same may happen this year.
We see “The Revenant” and “Mad Max” as the biggest threat to other nominees, here’s WHY…
The 88th Academy Awards, hosted by actor/comedian Chris Rock, are scheduled to air February 28.
Blanchett was nominated for her role in lesbian romance Carol, and Lawrence for playing the Miracle Mop inventor in Joy. Momentum may very well be on the side of “The Revenant”, which took home the Golden Globe awards for drama, actor, and director during Sunday’s much-hyped but overwhelmingly tiresome awards program, despite Ricky Gervais’s snarky hosting.
“The Revenant” and “Mad Max’ lead with 12 and 10 nominations respectively”. The critically acclaimed film “Straight Outta Compton”, which follows the rise of hip-hop group N.W.A., received a nod for best original screenplay, the only category it was nominated in, despite strong reviews.
Hardy will battle Christian Bale, Mark Ruffalo, Sylvester Stallone and Mark Rylance for Best Supporting Actor.
DiCaprio, who has yet to win an Oscar, will compete with Bryan Cranston in Hollywood blacklist tale Trumbo, Matt Damon in space adventure The Martian, Michael Fassbender as technology visionary Steve Jobs and Eddie Redmayne as transgender artist Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl.
The nominees for supporting actress are: Jennifer Jason Leigh, “The Hateful Eight”; Rooney Mara, “Carol”; Rachel McAdams, “Spotlight”; Alicia Vikander, “The Danish Girl”; and Kate Winslet, “Steve Jobs”.
