Making a Murderer Subject Files Appeal
While many fans of “Making a Murderer” are torn between whether Steven Avery is guilty of the murder of Teresa Halbach or not, her family believes he is “100 percent guilty” and considers it “unfortunate” that the documentary is so “one-sided”.

Morry Gash/AP Steven Avery’s defense attorney Dean Strang unsuccessfully argued during the trial that Avery would not be receiving a fair trial and that the officers have been attempting to frame Avery after his first wrongful conviction.
Avery also alleges the search warrants used to procure evidence against him – such as blood in Ms Halbach’s vehicle and her Rav 4 auto in his room – were invalid.
In an earlier, unrelated case, Avery was convicted of rape and sent to prison in 1985; he served 18 years before DNA evidence exonerated him.
Dassey, who is serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole, tried to appeal his conviction, but was denied and the Wisconsin Supreme Court wouldn’t review the case.
The two directors of the wildly popular Netflix documentary series Making a Murderer told Steven Colbert Tuesday night they did not believe the main subject of their film is guilty. Over 400,000 people have now signed a Change.org petition to urge President Obama and Governor Scott Walker to pardon Avery.
In an email to Local 5 News, Zellner said she’s confident Avery’s conviction will be vacated when her team presents new evidence.
The 10-part Netflix series renewed interest in Avery’s ongoing legal troubles, leading to calls for his release and a petition seeking a presidential pardon. Dassey was arrested at the age of 16 in connection with the murder case, but his attorneys maintain that his confession was coerced by the police.
A male juror with the initials C.W. allegedly made multiple expletive-laced comments about Avery’s guilt.

“I ate two boxes of rat poison just so I could go to the hospital and get away from him and asked them to get the police to help me”, Stachowski says. “And this appears to be an example of Mr. Avery doing exactly what he wants to and when he wants to do it”.
