However, rather than denying that his politics have been tainted by the left-leaning city, the NY real estate mogul commended New Yorkers for their resilience and patriotism in the aftermath of 9/11.

Cruz was born with dual American and Canadian citizenship.

The Cruz campaign hit Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump with two reminder video clips of the NY billionaire complimenting Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Trump added during the interview – which was recorded Saturday and aired in full on Sunday – that Cruz is “a total hypocrite”, pointing to the senator’s failure to properly disclose two million-dollar loans from Citibank and Goldman Sachs, which he used to fund his 2012 U.S. Senate run.

“I think in terms of a commander in chief, we ought to have someone who isn’t springing out of bed to tweet in a frantic response to the latest polls”, he said.

SNL also poked fun former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s (R) seemingly canned one-liners, as well as New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s (R) frequent, repetitive tough-talking criticism of President Barack Obama.

Cruz reportedly suggested that Trump’s attacks came in response to a new poll that showed him losing in a head-to-head competition with the senator.

‘The Constitution hasn’t changed, Cruz said, referring to the provision that a person must be a natural born citizen to become president – “but the poll numbers have”.

Cruz’s campaign has said the failure to report the loan was a paperwork error.

Trump said he will spend more of his own money on his bid saying over the summer he was prepared to spend $1 billion of his own money to win the White House.

“Donald Trump”, played by Darrell Hammond, took the opportunity to remind Republicans of Ted Cruz’s heritage. They expressed support for one candidate or the other based largely on stylistic differences. Asked to say where he differs with Trump on national security, Cruz flatly replied, “To be honest, I don’t know what Trump’s position is”.

Cruz said at the debate, “Listen, there are many, many wonderful, wonderful working men and women in the state of NY”.

Trump’s idea “makes it impossible to build the coalition necessary to take out ISIS”, Bush says. But while they were frustrated with the sparring, Annie Bates said they wouldn’t turn her off from one candidate or the other. Asked how he knows, McCarthy said: “Because his mother’s an American”.
