One of four American prisoners released by Iran, Nosratollah Khosravi-Roodsari, was not on the Swiss plane that left Tehran on Sunday, a senior US official said. He chose not to board the same flight as his three comrades and has not left Tehran, according to senior USA officials.

The student, identified as Matthew Trevithick, was released independently of the exchange on Saturday and already was on his way home, US officials said.

“Those who wished to depart Iran have left”, said one official.

In addition to the seven criminals, 14 other Iranians wanted here and in Europe for sanctions violations will no longer be pursued.

In a statement after the release of Rezaian, Washington Post Publisher Frederick Ryan said: “We are relieved that this 545-day nightmare for Jason and his family is finally over”.

In the wake of this weekend’s prisoner exchange with Iran, a Twitter hashtag supporting Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian underwent a jubilant change: #FreeJason became #JasonIsFree.

He was convicted in closed proceedings a year ago after being charged with espionage and related allegations.

The Washington Post’s executive editor and foreign editor told CNN that they were in Germany waiting to meet with Rezaian.

“If you take an American hostage, Barack Obama will cut a deal with you, whether it’s Bergdahl, what he did with the Castro brothers, and now what he’s done with Iran”, Rubio said during an interview with CBS’s “Face the Nation”.

The editorial noted that the four American-Iranian dual citizens that were held by Iran were exchanged for seven Iranians serving time in American jails, as well as an American promise to drop pursuit of fourteen other individuals. The seven were accused or convicted of violating USA sanctions. They say his arrest and incarceration were “devastating” to his friends and family and that he’s grateful for his release.

Iraq has welcomed the implementation of a historic nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, saying it will have a positive impact across the Middle East. “Because it all became real”, the congressman told CNN.

On Sunday he commended “moves by the governments of both countries to improve ties”.

US administration officials confirmed the news Saturday following reports first published in Iranian media.

The FBI said “we continue to investigate and follow up on all information we receive, no matter how insignificant it might seem”.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani touted the nuclear deal during an address to his country’s parliament.

Negotiations over detainees grew out of the Iran nuclear talks.

In return, the U.S.is pardoning or commuting the sentence of an Iranian and six dual citizens.

But the deal bogged down in Tehran and never went through.

“I am overcome with emotion that after four and a half years, this awful ordeal is ending and the Hekmati family will soon be reunited with Amir”, Kildee said.

That means Iran can now sell oil on the open market. The budget plans for an economic windfall as global economic sanctions against Iran end as part of a landmark nuclear deal.
