Obama Administration Denies Pardon for Making a Murderer’s Subjects
Avery, made famous in the Netflix documentary ‘Making a Murderer, ‘ has been claiming his innocence since his conviction. Since its premiere, the question of Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey’s involvement in the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach has grown. “But the complicated case is still very much in the works, and perhaps because of the series” hype, Avery has now found himself with new legal representation.

Since both Avery and Dassey are state prisoners, the president lacks authority to grant pardons on their behalf.
Netflix’s true-crime documentary “Making a Murderer”, about a Wisconsin man convicted of murder, had some viewers asking President Obama for his pardon.

Governor of Wisconsin Scott Walker, 48, vowed the “Making A Murderer” subjects would not be released from prison, despite the vast number of signatures on the White House petition.
Those watching the series took to the government’s We The People website, which features petitions from members of the public, with those that exceed 100,000 signatures being addressed by The White House within 30 days.
While the president said he can’t offer any concrete help, the White House said he’s “committed to restoring the sense of fairness at the heart of our justice system”, citing the 184 commutations and 66 pardons he’s granted while in office. According to the United States Department of Justice, presidential pardons can only be used on federal convictions.
An Avery-focused special edition of ID’s Front Page series, hosted by journalist Keith Morrison, will air in late January, announced Henry Schleiff, group president of Investigation Discovery, American Heroes Channel and Destination America.

I’m not saying Mr. Avery is innocent, I’m not saying he’s guilty, but I am also definitely not saying I’m shocked Barack Obama didn’t see 10,000 names on a digital petition and immediately overturn two murder charges from 2006.
