New Mortal Kombat X Beta Scheduled To Begin Next Week

The developer has stated that the main goal is to move away from a “dynamic input latency model” to a roll-back system akin to Mortal Kombat X’s offline mode, and to update the networking code. It’ll be the first step in helping to improve the game’s “online play experience”. As Boon’s tease suggested, the studio is moving to a model that is “similar in function” to GGPO, the acclaimed predictive netcode system used by a number of other fighting games.

Any player who has logged more than one hour online can sign up for testing using the online beta site, though NetherRealm’s community specialist notes that not everyone will get a invite. With multiplayer modes being one of the largest contributors to titles’ replay values nowadays, it’s important for developers to maintain games’ networks.

The Mortal Kombat X Enhanced Online beta will be made available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

A new beta coming to “Mortal Kombat X” will give fans a better look at the new online play being designed for the game. And while not everyone will get in immediately, NetherRealm will add more testers over time.

The website added that the new netcode’s arrival will be just in time for the next DLC called “Kombat Pack 2” which brings Xenomorph, Leatherface, Bo’ Rai Cho and Tri-Borg. The beta will feature four characters: Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Johnny Cage, and Jackie Briggs. The company wants to retain as many players as possible when Capcom’s fighter drops. Even with a decent upload speed, you’re going to be subjected to a round of Kombat that has more laggy stuttering than a showing of The King’s Speech.
