Half Life 2 Add-on Prospekt to Release in February

We might not be getting Half-Life 3 at any point in the near or far future, but at least Valve has officially sanctioned a new expansion pack that’s going to tell the story of what happened after the events in Half-Life: Opposing Force. That plan might not have worked out for him, but Prospekt is now available to preorder on Steam for $10 – in many ways, a more impressive achievement.

Prospekt continues the story of US Marine Adrian Shephard, whose fate has remained unknown for 17 years, and brings main protagonist Gordon Freeman back into the fray. From the trailer, the game looks attractive, and “era-correct” to Half-Life 2.

With Prospekt, Shephard makes his way to the Nova Prospekt prison-a region that was featured in Half Life 2-to assist an enemy-inundated Freeman. The original Half-Life has also since been recreated with modern technology and, titled Black Mesa, is available on Steam for $19.99, with Valve’s blessing.

Prospekt” features 13 levels filled with official “Half-Life 2” assets, though the game is a stand-alone title and doesn’t require owning “Half-Life 2” to play.

Prospekt has been developed by one man: 25-year-old Richard Seabrook over the course of 18 months.

However, just 72 hours after putting the game up on Steam Greenlight in a move he called the game’s “dying breath”, Seabrook found that his game was approved by Valve.

This expansion claims to be substantial, highly polished, comparable in length to Half-Life 2 Episode One, which means it will be a great value. Also, the listing carries “2016” as a release date and Valve as the developer and publisher of the game.
