Israeli woman stabbed to death inside West Bank home

JERUSALEM, Jan 18 (Reuters) – Israeli troops shot and wounded a Palestinian teenager who stabbed a pregnant Israeli woman in the Israeli-occupied West Bank on Monday, amid signs of Palestinians stepping up attacks on Israelis inside Jewish settlements.

An Israeli woman was killed in a Palestinian stabbing attack at her home in the settlement of Otniel, south of Hebron, the Hebrew media reported Sunday evening.

“One hour before everything happened, we were still discussing what nail polish I should wear”, said her 17-year-old daughter Renana, who saw the attack. “I’m sorry I couldn’t help you during the hardest moments”. Three of her children were home at the time of the attack.

The terrorist stabbed Meir, fatally wounding her and fled when he could not remove the knife from her body, Fassy said.

MDA paramedics sought to resuscitate her but pronounced Meir dead at the scene.

Today, Meir was laid to rest in Jerusalem’s Har HaMenuchot cemetery, in a funeral attended by hundreds.

Meir’s older teenage daughter witnessed the attack, and told authorities that her mother wrestled with the terrorist to prevent him from harming any of the children.

In the incident on Monday, the attacker apparently entered the Tekoa settlement and stabbed the 30-year-old woman, the Israeli military said, before being shot by the settlement’s head of security.

A nurse, Meir specialized in fertility from the Jewish religious perspective, running a clinic in her community as well as working at a hospital in Beersheba. Many of the Palestinian attackers have been young people, including teenagers.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said all Israel is grieving. “In the end he will be found and he will pay the full price”.

“Lately I have been thinking a lot about the security situation, having thoughts about what I should and shouldn’t do, about the fears, about my husband and the children”.

Human Rights Watch said businesses should stop operating in West Bank Jewish settlements because they violate Palestinian rights. In the early weeks of November the attacks, described by some as a third intifada (Palestinian uprising), diminished, though they never quite ceased.

Israel’s government has come under heavy pressure over the spate of attacks, and Sunday’s killing was likely to further boost tensions.

“We are concerned and perplexed by Israel’s strategy on settlements”, Shapiro told a security conference in Tel Aviv.
