Leeds Utd star Byram chooses West Ham over Everton

A fee of £3.7m was agreed between Leeds and Everton last week for the 22-year-old, who is out of contract at Elland Road this summer, and he discussed personal terms with their boss Roberto Martinez.

Leeds owner Massimo Cellino confirmed the news yesterday and apologised to Everton.

West Ham’s offer is reportedly lower than the £3.7million, rising to £5million on the table from Everton.

Everton won’t get in a bidding war for the Leeds United starlet.

However, it is believed Byram turned down a move to Goodison Park and the prospect of more regular first team football at Upton Park has turned the deal.

While Everton have Seamus Coleman established at right-back, albeit injured at present, West Ham have problems in that position with central defender James Tomkins deployed at full-back recently ahead of on-loan Carl Jenkinson.

Martinez said: “He’s a young man with a lot of experience of the Championship but his next step needs to be a good step for Sam and his family”.

Versatile performer Byram came through Leeds United’s academy and has made over 140 appearances for the club since making his debut in 2012.
