Syracuse junior forward Tyler Roberson was a man amongst boys tonight, as he completely dominated the glass and willed his team to victory. “When you do that, good things happen”. Michael Gbinije, Trevor Cooney, Malachi Richardson and Roberson all finished the game with 14 points.

Was he angry over perceived dirty play from the Orange? Center Marshall Plumlee had a dominant game, compiling 19 points and 17 rebounds.

That doesn’t mean much to coach Mike Krzyzewski, who has plenty of newcomers.

“If we have the mentality we had (at Wake Forest), it’s going to do a lot for us”, Cooney said. Allen scored nine consecutive points – two 3-pointers and a three-point play in final four minutes of the half – to push Duke to a 29-23 lead.

Richardson made a free throw with 2.1 seconds left and Matt Jones rebounded the miss, took off down court and appeared to draw contact near midcourt but no fouls were called as the buzzer sounded.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) – Freshman Caleb Swanigan had 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Purdue held a 63-23 advantage on the boards in handing Rutgers its worst home loss. It was solid offensively against visiting Notre Dame on Saturday but fell 95-91, losing for the first time when scoring at least that many points since 2008. Richardson made one free throw with 2.1 seconds left, and Duke never got a final shot off. Syracuse took its first second-half lead at 43-41 with an 8-0 run capped by Richardson’s 3-pointer at the 11:43 mark. Fans chanted “Take your coat off!” Gbinije would get fouled and miss the front end of a one-and-one, giving the Blue Devils a chance to take the lead. He came to Duke along with Plumlee and current National Basketball Association guard Austin Rivers in 2011 but transferred to Syracuse after his freshman season.

“Unbelievable defensive effort from both teams the entire game”, Boeheim said.

Like the losses to Clemson and Notre Dame, this one came down to the wire. Krzyzewski’s team has a road game at No. 15 Miami coming up next week, and February brings a brutal four-game stretch that features home games against No. 17 Louisville and No. 13 Virginia and road games at No. 2 North Carolina and Louisville again.
